Acting Technique

Course Books: The Power of the Actor by Ivana Chubbuck

A Challenge for the Actor by Uta Hagen

Authentic behavior is KEY to great acting!

This twelve-week class will provide you with an intellectual, psychological, physical and spiritual approach to creating layered characters. You will learn how to break down scripts, analyze characters, make dynamic choices, and organize those choices in a cohesive way. You will learn skills that help you to create emotional vibrancy, identify transitional moments, and maintain your character's scene objective in a chaotic set environment, which will be vital for your career success. You will also learn technical knowledge of on-camera acting, blocking, continuity, lighting and how to handle yourself on a set. Work outside of class is expected.

Monday Night Scene Study:
Featuring The Chubbuck Technique
We now have Punch Cards for Monday nights.  Bring your card with you each week.

Course Book: The Power of the Actor by Ivana Chubbuck

About The Chubbuck Technique:
Developed by world renown Acting Coach, Ivana Chubbuck, these 12 acting tools create a solid foundation that will keep actors present and inspire a raw, profound, dynamic and powerful performance. The Chubbuck Technique builds upon those techniques used in the past and teaches actors how to use their emotions not as an end result, but as a way to empower a goal. It teaches actors how to win.

A solid body of work exemplifies the effectiveness of The Chubbuck Technique. Every year, those who use it are well represented at the Academy Awards, Emmys, Golden Globes, Tonys, and many other international awards. For the 2006 Academy Awards, Ivana's students were nominated in every acting category: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress. Maureen Cashin Bolog of Actor's Craft is the only acting coach officially certified to teach The Chubbuck Technique in the Great Lakes area.

Work outside of class includes rehearsing scenes with selected scene partners.

FALL & WINTER!

During the School Year, Actor's Craft will have Two Semesters, with 1.5 hour classes meeting once a week. During the semester young actors will learn a well-rounded professional approach to acting which includes:

On-Camera Audition Technique
Cold Reading
The Chubbuck Technique
The Physical Actor
ImprovisationTechnique
Scene Study

Every new scene is an opportunity to work on Cold Reading skills using the phrase technique developed by Margie Haber.  This phrase technique will help actors communicate effectively even with scripts in their hands -- which will help in rehearsals as well as on auditions. This class may be repeated as our small class size allows us to challenge actors at their level of performance.

The above techniques are described in in the Adult section of our Course Descriptions page of this website. They will be taught to Teens and Children in an age-appropriate manner. Great acting skills are the same whether you are an adult or a child. Each semester will promote the growth of your actor as a professional in a competitive industry. AND they will have fun!

Can my child start after the beginning of the semester?
Students may be able to join after the start of the semester. Students who start later in the semester may be required to attend a "catch-up" session or two, predominately to teach the Phrase Technique we use for auditions and script reading, and also to introduce them to The Chubbuck Technique. This way, although they have missed classes and have less time to work on mastering the techniques, they will understand the foundation of our course.

When your child has an audition or has landed a role, make sure they mention it in class and we may be able to incorporate it as part of the lesson.

Private Sessions are Available for coaching for auditions and role.

The Talent Incubator - Theater Production
We have an Acting Camp  for The Talent Incubator scheduled for Summer 2018, check the summer schedule.

This production group is based on similar college programs.

Actor's Craft now has a 50-seat Theater and I want my students to get hands on experience in Theater Production.  Do you write? Do you want to direct? Produce? Act? Design Sets, Costumes, Posters? Jump in and make the magic happen. We can organize groups according to age. Each group will work on a different production. This is open to actors who have been through Acting Technique at Actor's Craft.
