Classes for Adults, Teens & Children 6+
Schedule & Fees

Developed by world renown Acting Coach, Ivana Chubbuck, these 12 acting tools create a solid foundation that will keep actors present and inspire a raw, profound, dynamic and powerful performance. The Chubbuck Technique builds upon those techniques used in the past and teaches actors how to use their emotions not as an end result, but as a way to empower a goal. It teaches actors how to win.

A solid body of work exemplifies the effectiveness of The Chubbuck Technique. Every year, those who use it are well represented at the Academy Awards, Emmys, Golden Globes, Tonys, and many other international awards. For the 2006 Academy Awards, Ivana's students were nominated in every acting category: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress. Maureen Cashin Bolog of Actor's Craft is the only acting coach officially certified to teach The Chubbuck Technique in the Great Lakes area.

Work outside of class includes rehearsing scenes with selected scene partners.

Improv Technique
Adult Course Book: The Power of the Actor by Ivana Chubbuck

Classes for Adults, Teens & Children
Schedule & Fees

Directors value actors who are comfortable with improvisation since they can add dimension to the scripted material. The spontaneity of improvisation improves your listening and reacting skills. It requires your intellectual, physical, and intuitive involvement which brings to light your unique characteristics. By identifying and honing these unique qualities, you can learn to bring your self to your acting work and create rich characters with vibrant relationships in your scenes.

Actors will work several times in every class, incorporating tools that identify personality types, obstacles and through-line objectives. This class provides a supportive environment where actors can take risks and explore their craft.

Script Analysis
Highly recommended for actors working on a role for film or stage.
Appropriate for working actors whether Adult, Teen or Child
Script Analysis is also part of the Adult Acting Technique Classes
Private Sessions Only at this time

You've landed the role. Now what do you do with it? Learn a step-by-step approach to staying true to the writers' intent while adding richness and depth to your character. There is plenty of work to do BEFORE you start to memorize those lines. Actors will analyze one script as a class and another script independently. Before the first class date, each student is responsible for acquiring a script containing a role appropriate for his/her type. Professional Acting Technique & Showcase
On-Camera & On Stage
Classes for Teens 12+
Classes for Children 6+

During the School Year, Actor's Craft will have Two Semesters, with 1.5 hour classes meeting once a week.  Teens 12+ on Mondays from 5:15-6:45 p.m., and Children Ages 6+ (able to read), on Tuesdays from 5:15 - 6:45 p.m.

During the semester young actors will learn a well-rounded professional approach to acting which includes:

On-Camera Audition Technique
The Chubbuck Technique
The Physical Actor
ImprovisationTechnique
Scene Study

The techniques are described in the Adult section above.  They will be taught to Teens and Children in an age-appropriate manner.  Great acting skills are the same whether you are an adult or a child.  Each semester will promote the growth of your actor as a professional in a competitive industry.  AND they will have fun!

SHOWCASE

At the end of each semester, we will have a SHOWCASE that will be open to family and friends, during which students can perform a commercial, a monologue and a scene.  Two free tickets are included in tuition cost.  Other tickets will be $5.  Students may invite Agents, Managers and Casting Directors at no charge, but they must register in advance.  The showcase will be taped.

Can my child start  after the beginning of the semester?
Students may be able to join after the start of the semester, however, for the Showcase, they might not have mastered all the areas.  This will depend on the student and how late they begin.  Also, students who start later in the semester will be required to attend a "catch-up" session or two, predominately to teach the Phrase Technique we use for auditions and script reading, and also to introduce them to The Chubbuck Technique.  This way, although they have missed classes and have less time to work on mastering the techniques, they will understand the foundation of our course.

When your child has an audition or has landed a role, make sure they mention it in class and we may be able to incorporate it as part of the lesson.

By appointment
Private Sessions are Available for coaching for auditions and roles.

STORY THEATER

In Story Theater, actors combine the role of storyteller and character into a flowing performance.  Transformation, mime and dance are the basis of Story Theater.  This method improvises plays from stories, myths, folk tales and legends. Musicians can improvise background music and others can create sound effects. The 8-week program will culminate with a live performance for friends and family and perhaps some pre-schools.

Story Theater evolved from the theater games developed by Viola Spolin, who is considered the Grandmother of Improvisation.  She used theater games and improv as a way to teach people to become better actors.  Her son, Paul Sills turned her theater games and improv into an art form and started Second City.  Later, he developed Story Theater.

I have been using Spolin's book in my classes since 2005, and of course, am familiar with Second City style improv.  In August 2012, I attended a week of workshops with the Spolin/Sills family in Door County.  Many of the actors in the group had studied or worked with Paul Sills and his mother Viola Spolin.  So this was a great opportunity to experience the exercises the way they were intended. It is an imaginative and empowering form of theater.

DYNAMIC PRESENTATIONS (See Dynamic Executive for Adults)

Connect. Relate. Inspire. Presenting information effectively is an important life skill. A presenter who is self-focussed does not energize or inspire himself or an audience. If his presentation is not compelling, no one will want to listen. The dynamic presenter energizes his message and personalizes his information to relate to the challenges of individuals in a specific audience. It’s not enough for a presenter to be honest, he must make the kind of choices that motivate exciting results.

The same techniques that help actors find their power to portray confident, effective executives can help students develop their ability to project themselves with poise, confidence and personal power to achieve their objectives. Maureen Cashin Bolog adapts The Dynamic Executive program into a student-friendly model. The course combines The Physical Actor, The Chubbuck Technique, AuditionTechnique, along with strategies of Fortune 500 companies to create emotionally connected, physically and vocally dynamic, relationship-driven presentations.

This initial course is open to ages 10 - 15. If Homeschool groups have an interest, we can add additional classes for other age groups.

They will also develop creative thinking, self-confidence, listening skills, and improve their ability to follow directions. Our focus is on freeing the body and voice, promoting connected movement, diction and projection. Students will learn vocal and physical techniques that will help them with school presentations as well as their acting.
